The Rough Guide to Japan
The Rough Guide to Japan provides invaluable advice on everything from getting there (including overland routes) to tracking down the latest and best places to sleep, eat, drink and shop. There is comprehensive coverage of all the major sights – and many off the beaten track - from the northern tip of Hokkaido down to the islands of Okinawa, closer to Taiwan than Tokyo. Full-colour sections introduce manga and anime, arguably Japan’s most successful cultural export, its rich variety of festivals and its stunning traditional gardens.

All this is accompanied by in-depth coverage of Japan's history, religions, arts, movies and music plus a discussion of environmental issues. There are maps of all the main towns and tourist destinations, together with separate colour maps of the Tokyo subway system and the rail network in Osaka.

Unforgettable Walks to Take Before You Die
The newly launched Unforgettable Walks to Take Before You Die is the fifth title in an exciting series of books that will help you search out essential sights and experiences around the world.

Photographers and writers Steve Watkins and Clare Jones draw on their years of international travel experience in selecting thirty of the world's most inspiring, spectacular and beautiful walks, each of which can be done within the space of a two-week break. Over a period of just eight months during 2007, they traveled to 24 countires on five continents to photograph and research the book. Their choices include a wide range of locations, from urban walking tours along Boston's Freedom Trail and the stunning temples of Kyoto, to the open countryside of the Yellowstone National Park in the USA and Peru's Inca Trail. There are leisurely jaunts, such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater property and a stroll around the picturesque canals of Amsterdam, as well as a few demanding walks, such as the Alpine Tour du Mont Blanc and China's Tiger Leaping Gorge trek, for those who like a challenge.

Steve Watkins traveled to Kyoto during the cherry blossom season. In the opening on the section on the Temples of Kyoto walk he writes, “There is no better way to delve into ancient culture, eastern spirit of Kyoto, Japan’s majestic, imperial capital, than strolling around the city’s Buddhist temples and shrines.” For Kyoto temple walks he suggests the Philopsopher’s Path and other lesser known walks in the south and west of the city and the outerlying countryside.
Richly illustrated throughout with specially commissioned photographs, Unforgettable Walks to Take Before You Die is aimed at anyone looking for ideas for an inspirational trip of a lifetime.

The book is now available in all major book stores.
