Hiroshima

When you come to Hiroshima it is difficult to imagine that this city has been totally demolished.

Hiroshima - one of the most dramatic places in the Japanese history . The nuclear bombs that ended World War II, have had a significant influence on the way Japan have developed, but they are also the witness of the consequences of modern warfare.
You can not avoid to be deeply touched when you see the Atomic Bomb Dome, the only building left from 1945, and Peace Memorial Park and its museum. Every year the 6th August at 8.15 there is a ceremony where you remember the victims of bomb. In the evening 10.000 lamps are placed in city rivers as a symbol of all the dead souls. But Hiroshima have also other sight that are worth a visit. The old park Shukkei-en, founded in 1620 and the Hiroshima fortress from 1589 is quite interesting. Both of them are rebuilt after the destructions of the bomb. But on top of these symbols of the destructions of the past, Hiroshima is a modern city with wide avenues, green parks and streetcars.
If you would like to add an extra day of relaxation to your vacation, we definitely recommend you to visit the small island Miyajima only 10 minutes ferry trip from Hiroshima. In the small isolated society at Miyajima time is standing still and a stop over on a ryokan, is a nice experience for body and soul.
